CBD FAQs

At George & Mae we understand that you might have lots of questions.  We have hopefully answered all of them below but if not please get in touch with us.

What is CBD oil?

CBD oil is a natural essential oil which is extracted from the flowers and leaves of the cannabis plant. George & Mae CBD oil contains a variety of active compounds including cannabinoids and terpenes.

CBD is short for cannabidiol. Our CBD comes from Phyto-Cannabinoid Rich (PCR). PCR plants are bred to have only trace amounts of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) which means you get all the benefits without any high and this is why it is legal.

CBD is one of several different molecules known as cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. CBD can act as a neurotransmitter.

Is CBD Oil legal?

Yes, CBD Oil is legal in the UK because it only has trace amounts of THC and cannot get you high.

George & Mae are members of the Cannabis Trades Association (CTA), a body created to ensure legal and ethical CBD trading standards in the UK. CTA works closely with the MHRA, FSA and CTPA to comply with EU and UK legislation and regulations. Only selected companies that meet exceptionally high quality standards are allowed to carry its seal of approval; its members guarantee transparency in trading, registration, batch testing and labelling, with reliable and accurate product information to give consumers peace of mind.

Does CBD Oil get you high?

THC affects particular brain receptors and changes the brain chemistry thus altering consciousness. CBD does not affect these receptors and CBD oil doesn’t contain THC in high enough concentrations to get you high.

Some CBD oils on the market contain trace amounts of THC. George & Mae CBD oils are produced using a patented technology that completely removes THC whilst maintaining other cannabinoids and terpenes. George & Mae oils will definitely not produce a high.

How is George & Mae CBD oil made?

George & Mae CBD oil is made using a distillation process with food-grade ethanol. Through innovative technology, we then remove wax, chlorophyll, plant pigments and the trace amounts of THC. The oil gets washed and polished and we are left with high grade, zero THC, broad spectrum CBD oil.

What is full spectrum and broad spectrum CBD oil?

A full spectrum CBD oil is one that contains all of the compounds from the hemp plant including THC. A broad spectrum oil contains a combination of cannabinoids, terpenes and other beneficial compounds found in PCR hemp without the THC.

George & Mae oils are broad spectrum and contain the same concentrations of these beneficial compounds found in our PCR hemp plant with the THC removed.

What is the Entourage Effect?

The Entourage Effect comes about from using Full and Broad Spectrum products. So, you not only benefit from CBD but you all get the goodness from the cannabinoids, flavonoids, terpenes, and fatty acids naturally found in cannabis and all these compounds work synergistically. Basically put, we can benefit from many compounds working together instead of just CBD.

What Are Terpenes?

Terpenes are a class of volatile hydrocarbon compounds produced in the flower clusters of the cannabis plant. Terpenes are what gives cannabis its distinct aromas. Terpenes are recognised as safe for human consumption and are used in a wide variety of food and cosmetic products.

How does CBD oil work?

The human body has an endocannabinoid system (ECS) which is a system of neurotransmitters and cell membrane receptors.

The body produces endocannabinoids, which are neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors in your nervous system.

Does CBD have a shelf life?

CBD itself does not have an expiration date. However, CBD oil products can degrade and should be consumed within a certain period of time. They should be stored in airtight contains either in the refrigerator or in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Please refer to the product expiration dates for more information.

Where is your hemp grown?

George & Mae PCR hemp is grown in Colorado, USA.

Is CBD oil the same as Hemp Seed oil?

No, CBD oil is very different from Hemp seed oil. CBD is produced by extracting the essential oils from the cannabis plant’s flowers, hemp seed oil, on the other hand, comes from the plant’s pressed seeds. Hemp oil is similar to other seed oils such as sesame oil. Hemp oil does not contain cannabinoids such as CBD.

Can I see your lab reports?

Yes, lab reports are available for all of George & Mae’s CBD products and visible on our website.

George & Mae products go through a series of rigorous testing by in-house and third-party labs to assure purity and concentrations of cannabinoids. This includes testing to be sure that our products are completely free of THC and any potential contaminants.

Does your CBD oil come from organically grown plants?

All our CBD oil comes from hemp plants that are grown organically without the use of any pesticides, herbicides, artificial fertilisers or harmful chemicals.

Can I travel with CBD oil?

CBD oil is legal in the EU but we still recommend caution when travelling with it. As it is related to marijuana airport staff may confuse it with illegal drugs.

When travelling outside of Europe we strongly recommend not travelling with CBD.

Will CBD oil help with my illness?

George & Mae CBD oil and products are sold as a food supplement to promote wellbeing. Please do your own personal research into cannabis oil as we legally cannot advise on illnesses or cures.

The information provided by George & Mae is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Are CBD oil and THC the same thing?

No! THC is the chemical in marijuana that has psychoactive properties, in other words, it gets you high. THC is found in high quantities in illegal marijuana.

Our oil contains high levels of CBD and zero THC. Our CBD comes from PCR hemp plants grown specifically for its high levels of CBD and low levels of THC and it is far richer in CBD and other cannabinoids and terpenes than the basic industrial hemp plants used by most CBD producers.  Our extracted oil then goes through a process to remove the traces of THC so we can be confident that our oil contains no THC.  Find out more about our process.

What is the best method of ingestion for CBD oil?

CBD oil needs to get into your bloodstream and to enable this we recommend placing a full pipette under your tongue and leaving the oil there for at least 1 minute. After this time swill the oil around your mouth before swallowing. When used sublingually, CBD can be absorbed directly into the bloodstream via capillaries found in tissues in the mouth.

How much should I take?

The amount of CBD oil you take depends on why it is being taken, how much CBD is in your product, your age, sex, weight and so on.

We recommend starting with a low dosage and building it up until you get the effect you desire. Servings of 8 to 50 mg per day are commonly taken and in the UK it is advised to not exceed 200mg per day.

Help me understand the different % oils on the market?

You can buy many different percentages of CBD oil. The important thing to know is the mg amount of CBD. We sell larger bottles of 30ml which come in either 250mg, 500mg or 1000mg versions. Bottles that contain 250mg CBD are entry level CBD oils, meaning that they are cheaper and give you a flavour of what CBD can do for you. However, to really have an effect we suggest progressing to our 500mg and 1000mg oils.

We would recommend starting with a low dosage of our entry level CBD 250mg oil, ¼ of a pipette and building it up over a number of weeks. When you are at the full dosage of the 250mg bottle but would like more then move to the 500mg CBD oil, likewise for the 1000mg CBD bottles.

Are there negative side effects with CBD oil?

CBD oil is not recommended for pregnant women or those who are breastfeeding and we would recommend consulting with your doctor if you are already on medication.

As far as we know there are no side effects with CBD oil however excessive servings may cause drowsiness.

Our oil comes from organic growers and is manufactured using Ethanol distillation which means you do get all the goodness and no nasties. It is then mixed with a carrier oil.

Please also make sure you buy CBD oil from companies who can vouch for the processes they use to extract oil as there are cheaper oils available that have been extracted using Butane. Cheap CBD oil is not necessarily a good thing.

Is CBD oil safe?

CBD has been shown in numerous studies to be well tolerated in humans. It is non-toxic and non-addictive. There is no known incidence of illness caused by the consumption of CBD oil. George & Mae CBD products undergo rigorous testing to guarantee they are free of THC and any potential contaminants.

What is CBD oil used for?

Many people use CBD to promote a healthy state known as homeostasis, the body’s natural tendency to maintain a healthy balance in all its systems. Cannabinoids are an integral part of the human body’s ability to regulate and balance a wide variety of physiological systems.

Why are CBD oil products so expensive?

We source the best and you get what you pay for. CBD oil products go through extensive manufacturing processes and each batch is tested for its purity and levels.

Does CBD interact with other food supplements or medications?

As always, you should consult with your doctor prior to taking any new supplements or medications to ensure there are no negative interactions.

Can I cook with the CBD oil?

Yes, why not. As CBD is in a carrier oil you can use it alongside the fats you are cooking with. For cooking or for adding to your coffee or smoothie we would recommend our Taste Free version.

How long does CBD stay in your system?

CBD will stay in your system for around 7 hours so taken regularly throughout the day will maintain its benefits.

How long does it take for CBD oil to work?

Liquid drops taken under the tongue will work in around 20 minutes however how quickly you feel any benefits will be down to your own personal disposition.

Will CBD show up on drug tests?

CBD oil is legal and is therefore not tested for in drug tests used to detect illegal drugs. As long as you take a pharmaceutical grade CBD product, which has been independently tested to ensure no significant content of psychoactive THC, then CBD will not show up in a drug test. Our products contact zero THC.

What should I look out for on the packing to ensure I’m dosing effectively?

Many companies put a percentage of CBD oil on the bottles or boxes but you don’t know how much CBD oil you will be getting per serving. Correct labelling will let you know the mg content of CBD oil and should also show you this as a per serving amount.

Is CBD addictive?

The simple answer is “no”. People can become addicted to THC in marijuana but as our oils contain zero THC you cannot become addicted.

Is CBD bad for you?

The simple answer is “no”. Because of its origin and association with the drug marijuana, CBD has developed a bad reputation but we think it is a wonderful addition to anyone’s life.

What effects will I feel from CBD oil?

We suggest you do your own investigations to decide if CBD is right for you and what it might help with.  However, organic compounds such as CBD can produce different effects in different people. Your results may vary.

George & Mae broad spectrum products will be greater than the benefits provided by narrow spectrum products, or those made using a CBD isolate.
